The gentle protected east-facing
slopes enfolding Hawley House run down to the
pristine and sheltered sandy beaches of the
Rubicon Bay. It is from these slopes that a
vineyard of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes has
astounded wine palates with its intensely floral
and aromatic fruit. The proximity of the site to
the sea is unique. Many Australian gold medals
have been harvested by both
varieties.
 Sophie
Houghton is
Hawley Vineyard's new winemaker. Having grown up
amongst the vines at Hawley she completed a Wine
Science Degree in
2006, and has worked vintages in the Coal River
Valley, the Tamar Valley, New Zealand
and Chile. A winery will be
constructed at Hawley during 2009, with the
winery's first vintage to be produced in
2010.
Each year a
local artist is commissioned to design a
wine
label depicting the Hawley estate. Some of
these are reproduced below, and they can all be
viewed in Hawley's dining
room.
